Rebecca Black says ‘gay sex’ helped her cope with Katy Perry tour schedule
Rebecca Black is baring it all.
The “Friday” singer revealed how she was able to cope with the demanding schedule of touring with Katy Perry all summer in a new interview at the MTV VMAs 2025 this past weekend.
“I have said it once, and I’ll say it again,” Black, 28, told People before heading into the UBS Arena on Sunday night. “It is the gay sex that I am so blessed to have that I can look forward to.”
Although the “Sugar Water Cyanide” hitmaker confirmed that she is having sex with her girlfriend, she chose not to disclose her partner’s identity. Black publicly came out as queer in April 2020.
“To me the word ‘queer’ feels really nice,” she explained at the time. “I’ve dated a lot of different types of people and I just don’t really know what the future holds. Some days I feel little more on the gay side than others.”
As for the tour itself, Black admitted that the “craziest part” was discovering just how much work went into organizing such a feat night after night.
“It takes more than a village,” the “Crumbs” singer said. “It’s multiple cities of people who are working day and night to get these things up. I can’t believe she trusts these girls to put her in the sky. It’s a lot.”
Unlike the “I Kissed a Girl” Grammy nominee, Black had never performed in a venue with over 10,000 fans before. She said that the experience frightened her at first.
“I was so overstimulated the first night and so scared, and by the end it felt so like redeeming to be able to get on and be like, ‘This is just another show,’” she shared.
“It was so much fun,” Black added. “But it was crazy.”
The Lifetimes Tour, however, isn’t all that Black has going for her at the moment.
Before joining Perry on the road earlier this summer, the Irvine native released her second studio album, “Salvation,” in February. She has since released collaborations with the hip-hop duo Joey Valence & Brae, as well as collabs with the electronic artists Jax Jones and sooyeon.
More new music, meanwhile, is reportedly in the works, and Black told People that she has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m very close to being done, and I am really excited about the direction,” she shared. “It’s dark. It’s sexy – definitely, definitely sexy.”
Black, who first blew up in popularity in 2011 when, at the age of 13, she dropped the pre-teen party anthem “Friday,” previously opened up about her success and how it altered her life at such a young age.
“My world changed in a lot of ways,” she exclusively told The Post back in 2021. “It was exciting, overwhelming and a little insane.”
“A lot of people around me were trying to capitalize,” the “Let Her Burn” artist continued at the time, “and all of a sudden, there were so many things that were brought into my life that were very adult.”
“I was trying to figure out who I was, and what I had to say at all,” she concluded. “But I needed a shift to feel like I had control.”
